How to Use Charr Salvage Kit
Ok, you know I'm a noob. I picked up a Charr Salvage Kit in pre-searing. Someone told me use it to salvage some of the purple armor you pick up, etc. But what does it do? I'm confused and have had trouble finding information. What exactly would you use it to salvage with?

Some drops you have will say that they are salvagable, you can use the salvage kits to get materials for making armor off these items. Some salvagable items will be blue, purple, or gold, these you can identify to get runes and/or insignia's, you can then use and expert salvage kit on those to get the runes or insignia's and then put em on your armor to buff yourself up.
For more info on salvage kits, or anything else you may need, go here, use the search. http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Salvage_kit |

It's an expert salvage kit in pre-searing. That is all.

How to use Charr Salvage kit:
1. Get blue/purple drop (we're talking pre-searing, here) 2. Use ID kit to Identify it (double click on kit, single click on item) 3. Decide if you want the item mod (rune, whatever) 4. Double click on Charr Salvage kit 5. Click on item 6. Select what you wish to salvage from the window that pops up. |

You don't use the kit itself to upgrade the item. If you want to get the mod off the item, follow the steps in the previous posts. Then you'll end up with the mod all by itself in your inventory and you can then apply that to another item of the same time (sword, shield, etc).
You do run the risk of destroying the original item, but removing the mod is guaranteed. If the original is so good you don't want to run the risk of destroying it you probably shouldn't remove the mod anyway. Also, remember that you can apply the same type of mod (sword hilt, shield handle, etc..) over the top of an existing mod on a different item without first removing the mod that's already on the item you wish to upgrade. Hope that was helpful and not too confusing. :-) Also, as you progress in the game, your percentages of breaking items will decrease. No problem we were all learning the basics at one time.
Salvage kits result in raw materials Expert salvage kits can not only give you raw materials but also extract runes etc from items example A blue or purple sword might say fiery longsword of defence then give the damage done and skill needed to use it. Using a salvage kit would probably give you some iron ingots. A Superior salvage kit would offer you the chance to take one of the parts of the sword to use on another sword as an upgrade. In the present example either a Sword hilt of fire or a Pommel of defence which would add some armour to your character while using the sword. There is a chance the sword isnt destroyed by this and then you can take another part and so on til nothing is left. In the best case you would get hilt pommel and iron ingots with 3 uses of the kit. When you find armour you can never wear it so its only worth its component parts usually runes you can use on your own armour and raw materials. Note on raw materials These are used by crafters "Not characters" to make armour and other items some materials are common others rare, price varies. |

Another helpful tip since you are starting out is to get an Identification Kit and start identifying the items you plan on selling to the merchant.
This currently applies to:
Identifying your items to be sold will increase their value, most of the time more so then the price of 1 use of your ID kit, making it worth the trouble. Later on it will also be very much worth it to start ID'ing your white items as it can increase their value up to 60% which makes it very profitable compared to simply selling them as you find them. |

Thank you again for the help. It's making a lot more sense. I took some screen shots of what I could do with the pieces if I salvaged them. The kit gives you a choice of whether to go ahead and use or not.
I guess a lot depends of what your profession is also. For a Sword For armor: |

[QUOTE=Crystal Lake]For a Sword
Not sure about the pommel (not too much into the whole pre-searing part and dont know how high the percentages go on those) For armor: Definitely salvage the attunement rune to put on your armor (gives you +2energy) and salvage the minionmasters insignia if you are a Necro Salvage the Elementalist rune, and then the Monk Insignia if you are a monk. Sell the rest to players... but again im not sure about the pre-searing prices for the stuff |

Thanks Rushin. I am a Monk and I was able to use the Disciples Insignia, and I used another piece for my Monk too. I tested it out and I am living longer to fight those charr.
I have a Monk/Ranger and tried to use something specific for a Ranger (for the pants - Used Monk Insignia for coat) but it didn't work. So I'm guessing you can only use a ranger insignia for a ranger? Also, I did something really stupid - I had salvaged one piece of armor and got two things from it, but was looking at what to salvage next (if any) and hit that piece again and got 3 bolts of cloth. What a waste! Oh well. I also discovered that you need to really decide what you want to salvage if you have two choices. There were two choices in one piece of armor, and I got what I salvaged fo the first time but destroyed the piece in the process. Quote:

Rhiannon, white items are never have the unidentified description. But if you use and ID kit on a white drop, it will show a gp value whereas if it is unidentified, it does not list a gp value. If you do this while you have a merchant window up, you will see that the sell price increases when you do this. The difference increases as you get into higher level areas with more valuable drops. Because an ID kit only costs a 4 or 5gp per ID, once you get to the point where IDing a white drop increases it's value more than that, you are getting free money. Sometimes IDing runes will get you a price increase though (usually only works on lower priced runes though). Random new player tip: If you are in pre for the first time, don't sell any dye until you get to a dye trader, or can ask a friend/guildie/ally what the dye trader says your dye is worth. I believe they all go for 1gp at the merchant, but things like Red Dye can go for about 300-400gp at a dye trader if memory serves. Black dye is worth several thousand gp. I've only actually taken one character out of pre-Searing so far as I'm playing around to find a favoured main char, so there's no rush, but knowledge is strength as my old school motto said! |

You should salvage the rune of attunement out, its worth like 500g to the merch, which isn't bad IMHO. And in pre i bet its worth a lot more
